Septic care and maintenance

DO Have your tank pumped regularly

DON'T drive or park on your septic tank or tile bed

DO repair leaky plumbing fixtures

DON'T use harsh cleaners or antibacterial products

DO clean your effluent filter at least twice a year

DON'T plant trees or shrubs near your septic tank or tile bed

DO plant grass seed for erosion control above your tank and leaching bed

DON'T flush anything except toilet paper and sewage (even “flushable” wipes)

DON'T pour grease, food waste, oil, paint or chemicals down the drain

DON'T overload your septic system with a lot of water all at once. Space out loads of laundry, dishwashers and showers to give the filter bed time to absorb the water
